North Wales Police launch anti-drink and drug drive operation for festive period
North Wales Police have launched their annual anti-drink and drug drive operation for the festive period.
North Wales Police are cracking down on drink and drug driving this festive season with the launch of their annual operation aimed at keeping roads safe. The campaign, which began this week, will see an increased police presence across North Wales, with officers conducting roadside checks and targeting known hotspots for impaired driving.
The festive period traditionally sees an increase in social gatherings and celebrations, which unfortunately can lead to a rise in incidents of drink and drug driving. North Wales Police are determined to prevent tragedies on the roads and are sending a clear message: driving under the influence will not be tolerated.
Officers will be utilizing a range of tactics, including high-visibility patrols and intelligence-led operations, to identify and apprehend offenders. They will be equipped with breathalyzers to test for alcohol and drug testing kits to detect the presence of illegal substances, including cannabis and cocaine. Anyone found to be over the legal limit, or impaired by drugs, will face serious consequences, including a driving ban, a hefty fine, and even imprisonment.
Beyond enforcement, the campaign also focuses on raising awareness about the dangers of drink and drug driving. North Wales Police are urging people to plan ahead and make responsible choices before getting behind the wheel. This includes designating a designated driver, arranging alternative transportation such as taxis or public transport, or simply staying overnight where they are celebrating.
Superintendent Jane Jones of North Wales Police emphasized the importance of the operation, stating, "Our aim is to ensure that everyone can enjoy the festive season safely. Drink and drug driving puts lives at risk, not only the driver but also passengers, pedestrians, and other road users. We are committed to taking action against those who choose to break the law and endanger others."
The campaign will run throughout December and into the New Year, with police actively monitoring roads and responding to reports of suspected drink or drug driving. North Wales Police are also encouraging members of the public to report any concerns they may have about someone driving under the influence. By working together, the police and the community can help make the roads of North Wales safer for everyone this holiday season.
